Whether you are estimating freight or checking a mill certificate, the theoretical weight of nickel alloy sheet and plate is a quick calculation.
The Formula
Weight (kg) = Length (m) × Width (m) × Thickness (mm) × Density (g/cm³)
Example: a 2 m × 1 m × 2 mm sheet of Inconel 625 (density 8.44) weighs 2 × 1 × 2 × 8.44 = 33.76 kg.
Nominal Densities of Common Grades
| Grade | Density (g/cm³) |
|---|---|
| Inconel 600 | 8.47 |
| Inconel 601 | 8.11 |
| Inconel 625 | 8.44 |
| Inconel 718 | 8.19 |
| Hastelloy C-276 | 8.89 |
| Hastelloy C-22 | 8.69 |
| Hastelloy B-2 | 9.22 |
| Hastelloy X | 8.22 |
| Monel 400 | 8.83 |
| Monel K500 | 8.44 |
| Incoloy 800/800H | 7.94 |
| Incoloy 825 | 8.14 |
| Incoloy 926 | 8.10 |
| Alloy 20 | 8.08 |
| 254 SMO | 8.00 |
| 904L | 7.95 |
| Nickel 200/201 | 8.89 |
Nominal values; use the MTC density for exact weight settlement.
Quick Reference: kg per m²
Multiply thickness (mm) by density. A 3 mm C-276 plate: 3 × 8.89 = 26.67 kg/m². A 1.5 mm 825 sheet: 1.5 × 8.14 = 12.21 kg/m².
