Inconel 625 (UNS N06625, ASTM B443) and Incoloy 825 (UNS N08825, ASTM B424) overlap in many corrosive applications, but they are built differently and priced differently.
Key Differences
| Inconel 625 | Incoloy 825 | |
|---|---|---|
| Nickel | ≥58% | 38–46% |
| Main strengthening | Mo + Nb solid solution | Fe-Ni austenitic, Ti stabilized |
| Tensile (annealed) | ≥827 MPa | ≥655 MPa |
| Signature strength | Seawater, pitting, chloride SCC, high temperature | Sulfuric & phosphoric acids, cost-effective corrosion resistance |
How to Choose
- Marine, offshore, high chloride or high temperature → 625.
- Acid plants, tank linings, moderate temperatures with budget pressure → 825.
- When 316L fails but full nickel alloy cost is not justified, also consider Incoloy 926 or 254 SMO.
Both grades are in regular stock: Inconel 625 sheet & plate, Incoloy 825 sheet & plate.
